Boss 2: Beatrix
Last updated: 4/18/25
When pulling this boss, everyone must run towards her. Scarlet soldiers will quickly form a square perimeter and any players outside of this perimeter will instantly die.
Phase 1
Lasts roughly a minute.
Before Beatrix enters the fight, you must hold out against waves of enemies. The most important thing in this fight is avoiding mechanics and keeping pace with the spawn rate of adds. All add spawns and mechanics continue occurring while the boss is active. The armies are:
- A squadron of Scarlet Infantry, led by Shield Warden Stein
- A battalion of Scarlet Cavalry, led by Knight-Captain Fratley
- A coven of Scarlet Mages, led by Arcanist Hilda
- A unit of Scarlet Artillery, led by Cannon Mistress Lind
- A platoon of Scarlet Archers, led by Bowmaster Puck
- A clergy of Scarlet Priests, led by Cardinal Stiltz
Occasionally, the leaders of these armies will call for a special mechanic, like BWL Nefarian class calls. Only one of these calls will occur at a time. While all 6 enemy types will spawn as adds regardless, only the 4 leaders that fled during the prior trash will be involved in the fight and be able to call. These mechanics are as follows:
Cardinal Stiltz
The Cardinal and his priests will cast Confession on the raid. This applies a debuff to the majority of the raid with a small DoT; after 5 seconds, anyone afflicted will receive damage based on their proximity to other players. When you know a Confession is about to go out, the entire raid must spread until it expires, or it’ll be a quick wipe.
Bowmaster Puck
He commands his archers to rain hell down on your raid. This is effectively just a raid-wide DoT, it does very little damage and is easily outhealed. Shrug it off.
By far the easiest mechanic for the raid. Healers be sure to AoE and have HoTs rolling, everyone else just ignore it and focus DPS.
Shield Warden Stein
She will send 4 waves of Scarlet Infantry to form lines and advance towards you. There are two gaps in each line. Each time one of the Infantry collides with you, you’ll receive a stack of Scarlet Phalanx, a bleed that must simply be outhealed. This does stack but the damage isn’t too brutal.
Avoid it if it’s easy to do so, but if you’re actively fighting mobs or the boss, it’s probably not worth the uptime loss to move out of the way, just eat the damage and healers adjust.
Arcanist Hilda
The Arcanist will summon a giant meteor on the battlefield. This must be soaked. Anyone inside the meteor when it impacts will take some damage, but anyone outside of the meteor will instantly die.
The meteor’s location is pre-determined, it will always land in a spot roughly in front of Hilda. Bubbles or other party-wide defensives will help, but the damage is minimal as long as you do the mechanic.
Knight-Captain Fratley
He will send 4 waves of Scarlet Cavalry to charge at you. This is similar to the Scarlet Infantry, but you will be greatly knocked back if one hits you. There are more gaps but these move much faster.
It’s very easy to get chain knockback’d like a pinball, even off the battlefield and into the perimeter’s killbox, so dodge at all costs. When this call is going out, move to the center of the arena so you can more easily anticipate where the knights will be. This is one of the most punishing mechanics due to how fast the Knights are, how far you get knocked back, the fact that it can daisychain, and how much uptime you eventually lose in a fight where losing uptime can cause the adds to cascade in numbers.
Cannon Mistress Lind
She will order her artillery to bombard the area. These are choreographed as 5 large red swirls on the ground; avoid these or take a ton of damage. They also leave an AoE ember for a short while after impact that deals a lot of residual damage.
This is pretty clearly coreographed, there’s no real excuse to not avoid these. You can only survive a few seconds within the afterburn of one. That said, the radius is slightly larger than the visual.
Phase 2
Beatrix enters the fight after 2 class calls have been performed.
NEW - Changed 4/14/25
This is far sooner than the previous 2:20 timer and will occur within roughly a minute.
She’s a fairly simple tank and spank, but the real challenge comes from keeping up with fresh adds and avoiding the call mechanics. Once Beatrix becomes active, the adds will respawn faster based on the rate that you kill them. You should continue focusing adds until 50% while cleaving Beatrix - once you cross 50%, switch and primarily focus Beatrix while cleaving adds.
Beatrix herself has a few abilities:
Unwavering Blade
She’ll cast this on the tank periodically, dramatically increasing the damage they take. Tank-swap immediately. Lasts 25 seconds.
Stock Break
She targets 3 players and hits them for 95% of their maximum health, reducing them to 1 health if they’re below 95% health beforehand but never killing them. These players are then stunned for a few seconds, but made temporarily invulnerable. Heal them up before the invulnerability wears off.
Rose’s Thorn
She will charge into players, and afflict Rose’s Thorn on her target. This puts a bleed on a player until they’re healed to full, similar to BWL Red Trial. The bleed doesn’t deal too much damage as long as it’s not left unchecked.
The Scarlet Cavalry adds in this fight will cast Crusader Strike on the tank. While this isn’t normally a big deal, in this fight it increases the amount of Holy damage taken by the tank by 10% each stack, up to 5 stacks. This must be dispelled ASAP because Beatrix deals primarily Holy damage, so this becomes a tank-buster. A full stack of Crusader Strike is effectively half of an Unwavering Blade, and the two do stack together as well.
The boss dies at 0%.
There were rumors running rampant during early progression that the boss dies at 50% due to how much difficulty folks had pushing her to that point. This is not true.
