Viscidus
Last updated: 7/28/26
This fight is mostly identical to Vanilla, but in SoD the frost thresholds are reduced and the poison goes out far less often.
Viscidus is more of a scripted encounter than a fight. He has three states: Normal, Frozen, and Globs.
Normal State
Viscidus takes little damage in this state, and must be Frozen by dealing instances of Frost damage to him. This means Mages should blast low-rank (fast) Frost spells, cast Frozen Orb, etc. Priests can cast Mind Spike. Shamans can use Frost Shock. Other casters should use Frost wands if they have them.
During this phase, he also has a few abilities:
- Poison Bolt Volley: Applies raid-wide stacks of poison. Since there’s very little damage in this fight, most healer mana will go towards cleansing.
- Toxin: Viscidus occaisonally drops poison clouds around the arena that slow players and deal nature damage. Just… don’t stand in it.
Frozen State
At this point, Viscidus must be Shattered by dealing physical damage to him. All ranged should move into melee range and join the melee in whacking the boss.
Globs
When Viscidus is Shattered, he will explode, splitting into a bunch of small Globs of Viscidus adds throughout the edge of the room. These slowly run towards the center of the room before merging back into Viscidus. This is when you’re able to deal damage to the boss; each Glob represents 5% of Viscidus’ health pool. If every Glob dies, then Viscidus will die.
On this fight’s hard mode, your raid will have the following additional debuffs:
Curse of Despair (Rank 3): Raid-wide DoT (curse).
Curse of Decay (Rank 2): Noxious Burst, everyone must spread. After a few moments, deals damage to each player based on proximity to other players. Basically Gruul’s Shatter from TBC.
