The Molten Core (AKA: Ragnaros’ Left Nut)
Last updated: 7/21/26
You may only fight this boss if you managed to clear the rest of the instance on Heat Level 3.
This fight is more of an encounter. As players, your primary job is not to attack the boss, but rather to protect the Hydraxian Firefighters who are fighting the boss for you.
Throughout the fight, the boss will summon Primal Flame Elementals to kill the allied NPCs; these must be rounded up and burned down while avoiding the boss’ attacks.
The raid should stack in two groups, one for ranged and one for melee. Bring adds to melee range, similar to Submerge phase on Ragnaros, and cleave them down.
With how many allied NPCs there are, how far apart they’re spread, and how many adds spawn to attack them, it is likely beneficial for every player with a taunt to use them to rip the adds off the NPCs. It’s hard for the OT to run around picking up each add, but it’s much easier for them to simply grab threat on the ones running into the raid. Feel free to also CC adds with banishes, slows, and stuns.
While the offtank handles the adds, the main tank will need to hold the boss.
These are the most important boss abilities to pay attention to:
- Melt Armor: Basically a stacking Sunder Armor. You should not swap tanks for this debuff; it is only applied to whichever tank is holding the boss, and the boss does not deal physical damage. However, receiving this debuff on the OT is bad because the adds do deal physical damage.
- Meteor: A meteor will land on the battlefield; everyone must run out of it and then regroup after.
- Heart of Cinder & Heart of Ash: Both of these debuffs go out simultaneously on two separate players. These players need to run into each other to remove the debuff.
As long as the boss is tanked, it doesn’t actually matter how many of your raiders die. The primary damage being dealt to the boss is from the allied NPCs, so your prime directive is to keep as many of them alive as possible. The majority of your raid can wipe (besides your MT) and it can still be a kill if there are enough Firefighters alive.
