Hakkar

Hakkar’s normal mechanics from Vanilla all apply:
- Cause Insanity: Hakkar will periodically mind control the current top threat (tank). They will need to be CC’d (polymorphed, frozen, or slept) for the duration of this MC until it expires. Do not kill them. An offtank will need to preemptively stay second on threat so they become the tank when this goes out.
- Corrupted Blood: Occasionally, Hakkar will throw this DoT on someone. It spreads to nearby players so they should run out of the group. In SoD this damage is a bit higher, but it’s still fairly insignificant with the amount of healing power we have, so it can mostly be ignored.
- Blood Siphon: Every 90 seconds, Hakkar will stun the raid and leech life from them, healing himself. It can basically be ignored.
In Vanilla, Blood Siphon is very powerful, and can fully heal Hakkar if the mechanic isn’t done correctly. The way to mitigate this is to pull a Son of Hakkar add from below, kill it, and stand in the poison puddle it drops to get poisoned. Any players who are poisoned will damage Hakkar during Blood Siphon instead of healing him. However, in SoD, Hakkar often dies before ever casting Blood Siphon; even if he doesn’t, it is relatively weak in SoD due to the lower number of players (and his increased health pool) ultimately not healing him for much.
SoD Hard Mode
There are five High Priests in Zul’Gurub - for each one still alive when Hakkar is fought, they will empower him, making him stronger and providing a unique buff from each High Priest. For each priest still alive, Hakkar will drop an additional item from that Priest’s loot table. This can include Thekal’s Tiger mount.
The concept for SoD’s hard mode is actually inspired by Vanilla, but very few ever fought the boss this way because there was no reward for doing so in Vanilla. That being said, the added mechanics are different and much stronger in SoD.
The 5 added mechanics are as follows:
- Aspect of Arlokk: Periodically, Hakkar will summon panther adds from the shadows that swarm and attack an area. They will inflict high damage on anyone in the area. They cannot be attacked, and will simply disappear after a few seconds. You should be pre-spread for this, and run away if they’re attacking you.
- Aspect of Jeklik: Deals 1500 damage and silences the raid (45yd) for 5 sec.
- Aspect of Mar’li: Hakkar will summon a Spawn of Mar’li, which should be focused down. It poisons and hits hard.
- Aspect of Thekal: Hakkar will occasionally be Frenzied, attacking 150% faster for 8 seconds. Just be sure to heal the tank during this.
- Aspect of Venoxis: Spawns a Parasitic Serpent that will posion players. Similar to Mar’li.
